Garonga Safari Camp

Kruger National Park, South Africa

Silver price level

Mango Opinion

This is a very special place. Garonga is as much of a safari camp as it is a wilderness retreat. The rooms are gorgeous. The scratch cooking is delicious. The guides are impressive. The game viewing is good but not as prolific as the nearby Sabi Sands. An equal focus on relaxing lunches in the picnic tree, bubble baths in the bush and massages give guests a varied and wonderful few days.

Garonga is an exclusive safari camp situated west of the Kruger National Park on 60,000 acres on the Greater Makalali Private Nature Reserve. The reserve offers an in-depth experience for bush lovers seeking more than the classic Big Five encounter. While offering big game viewing, Garonga promises a more intimate wildlife experience with walking, tracking, and sleep-out excursions.

Garonga Safari Camp has 6 luxury tents, with private decks and spectacular views overlooking a dry riverbed. Each tent sleeps two with large, draped beds, indoor and outdoor showers, and a hammock. The tents are airy and spacious, providing the perfect link between exclusive luxury and the allure of Mother Nature just outside. This tented camp is ideal for couples who enjoy the experience of being part of the bush. Camp amenities include an open plan living area, wine cellar, curio shop and swimming pool, as well as a special sala for aromatherapy sessions.

Garonga offers a true Big Five safari experience, with expert guides and trackers who are knowledgeable about the wide variety of animals in our nature reserve. Track wildlife in the pre-dawn or enjoy traditional early morning and late afternoon game drives. Safari walks with a game ranger are another highlight, bringing our guests up close to the flora and fauna of the nature reserve. The guides will also point out the varied birdlife, and explain how they track animals by their prints.
