Rwanda, known as the land of a thousand hills offers visitors is a green undulating landscape of hills, gardens and tea plantations. Most visitors visit to trek to see Mountain Gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. Rwanda boasts up to a third of the world’s remaining gorillas. Other primate species, like chimpanzees, can also be seen in the Nyungwe Forest. Rwanda offers visitors excellent birding as well.

Most people fly into the capital city of Kigali, which offers an excellent hub for an easy drive or charter flight to the parks and reserves. Most of our clients visit here as part of an East Africa safari that includes destinations like Kenya and Tanzania. These are easy to combine, especially Tanzania as one can fly directly from Kigali to Serengeti National Park.

Rwanda is also known for the April, 1994 genocide where upwards of 800,000 minority Tutsi people were killed in a span of only 100 days by the majority Hutu people.

Because of this tragedy the people of Rwanda have worked diligently to rebuild both their country as well as their psyches. There are several memorials and museums in Kigali and other areas for those that are interested in learning more.
