Mwagusi Safari Camp

Ruaha National Park, Tanzania

Silver price level

Mango Opinion

This is a little visited and totally incredible place. Its location is considered the best in this off the beaten path National Park. Tented accommodation is basic but very comfortable. The camp is personally hosted by owner Chris Fox. This gives visitors that invaluable Tanzanian hospitality. They take guiding very seriously so expect good sightings.

Mwagusi Safari Camp is located in the northeast of Ruaha National Park on the banks of the Mwagusi Sand River. This is the most beautiful section of the park, and has exceptional game viewing. Animals frequent the camp, giving you the opportunity to watch impala, warthog and guinea fowl during the day, and listen to the elephant and hippo wandering by at night.

The camp is built almost entirely from organic natural materials. The main area consists of a large dining tent with lounges overlooking the river. Each of the ten en-suite tents is comfortably secured under a cooling thatched roof and nestled snuggly into the sandy banks of the Mwagusi River. Each banda has en-suite facilities with a flushing toilet, hot water, shower, sink and good nighttime lighting. Built using stones, driftwood and bones the bathroom is an area of interesting and original design. Thick comfortable towels and locally produced clove soap are provided.

There will be plenty of opportunity for game drives and walks throughout the area in our specially adapted open sided 4WD vehicles, each with comfortable seats and high shade awning to enable one to stand and still be in the shade while game viewing. Expert guides will share their knowledge as they navigate through the bush with ease and skill, spotting lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards, elands, roans, oribis and sable. Diverse bird life can be found year round, and there are even sightings of rare wild dogs and cheetahs.
