Mango Opinion

Samburu Saruni is set on a private concession just north of Samburu National Reserve. The benefit is a magnificent setting, exclusive access to visit the local Samburu and an abilty to take walks on the conservancy. The downside is the longer drive to reach the entrance into Samburu for more concentrated animal viewing. Guests are sure to enjoy supremely talented guides and uber stylish luxury accommodations.   Plan on spending some time in the swimming pool.  It is located at the top of the hill and has gorgeous views of the entire surrounding valley!

Perched on the top of the Kalama mountains with a 360 view of Northen Kenya all the way to snow-covered Mount Kenya, Saruni Samburu is introducing a fresh concept to a well-known safari destination. Built on the pristine land owned by the Kalama Wildlife Conservancy, it is only seven kilometers - and a 20 minute exciting game drive - away from the Northern border of Samburu National Reserve, a celebrated elephant sanctuary. The lodge offers a first-class safari experience in a beautifuly pristine environment, far from the beaten tracks and very close to the wildlife.

There are six large cottages that perfectly blend safari-inspired decor with a fresh elegance to create a luxuirous oasis amid the natural setting. There is also a large pool with stunning views over Samburuland and a waterhole that attracts elephants, reticulated giraffes, zebras, oryxes and myriad other unique species.

Game drives are conducted inside Samburu National Reserve and Buffalo Springs National Reserve, but many activities take place in Kalama, a well-kept secret of Kenyas North. The recent introduction of water means that Kalama is becoming an important attraction to all the Samburu wildlife. Other activities include visits to the caves where in the past the Samburu have painted and carved rock art, professionally-led game walks, bush dinners and star gazing. The traditions and semi-nomadic heritage of the local Samburu people are an integral part of the experience as the lodges's knowledgeable and passionate guides are Samburu warriors.
