The Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is 2500 hectares of pure Western Cape wilderness. The fynbos clad hills overlooking Walker Bay boast magnificent views of Cape Hangklip, Cape Point and Cape Aghullas. Enjoy an entrancing stroll through our Milkwood forest or a more revitalising hike up our fynbos rich mountains, as you begin to understand what makes Grootbos quite so special. At Grootbos, we go beyond simply conserving this pristine wilderness we call home. We’re constantly researching, innovating and pioneering new ways of doing things – in order to transform the lives of community members as well as preserve 2500 hectares of botanical and wildlife treasures.

There are two lodges that offer a wonderful experience at Grootobos, the classic Garden Lodge and contemporary Forest Lodge. There are also two private villas with intuitive service provided by your own private chef, butler and nature guides, your every need will be met in a home-away-from-home environment of unsurpassed quality.

Three-course dinners, specializing in seafood, are served in the circular restaurant as are large buffet breakfasts. Grootbos boasts a large swimming pool set within natural rock features and indigenous plants. There is a gift shop stocked with local arts & crafts. Telescopes for whale and bird-watching, conference facilities, and a research center are also on site. Activities include beach adventures guided or on your own, whale watching, marine safaris, river cruise, biking, guided reserve drives, hiking and much more.
