Xugana Island Lodge

Okavango Delta, Botswana

Silver price level

Mango Opinion

Xugana is a water inspired camp, great if you can combine it with a camp offering land based activities, not as geaet if this is the one top on your safari.

The Xugana Lagoon is widely accepted as being the most spectacular permanent water site in the entire Okavango Delta, which in the midst of the Kalahari sands, is Africas largest and most awe-inspiring oasis. The Okavango River rises in the highlands of Angola and never reaches the sea; instead its immense waters empty over the sands of the Kalahari. Here the great desert thirst is quenched in a wilderness of fresh water lagoons, channels and islands.

Xugana Island Lodge is situated on a private concession and takes full advantage of this magnificent site. On the shaded fringe of the island, the lodge accommodates just 16 guests in reed and thatch lagoon-facing en-suite chalets with private viewing decks. An open boma and al fresco dining area overlooks the expanse of pristine water that makes up the this unique permanent Delta.

The open-sided thatched lounge, bar and dining areas are set back under the ebony and African Mangosteen tree canopy. The swimming pool, located within the mature gardens in the centre of the island, is a perfect place to relax.

Guests can either explore the delta by motorboat, mokoro, or take leisurely walks or safari drives on surrounding islands in the concession. This provides the opportunity to experience a classic Okavango Delta safari. Birdwatching opportunities are outstanding, and fishing for bream and tigerfish is offered.
