At the heart of the northern Tanzania safari circuit, Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge is located halfway between the Rift Valley escarpment and Ngorongoro Gate, three miles from the main Arusha to Karatu road. Only a half hour drive to the gate of the Ngorongoro Crater, and a half hour to the gate of Lake Manyara NP as well. Lake Eyasi and Tarangire NP are at a distance of one hour.
Perched at 1700m, well above any malaria risk, the lodge overlooks local villages, terraced fields of corn and beans, and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area forest. At night you can look down to the twinkling lights of Karatu town in the distance, whilst sunrise over Mount Kilimanjaro is a once in a lifetime memory.
The setting makes afternoon tea, sundowners or a romantic dinner on the wooden verandah even more special, with elephant, baboon and waterbuck often visible during the day.
Each of the 15 tents has its own private hot shower, European toilet, a luxurious bed with hot water bottle and a private veranda overlooking the local farms and the Rift Valley. The furniture and floor is created from indigenous Tanzanian wood. From sunrise until sunset you'll be able to witness magnificent views from the verandah, lounge and dining room.
Rhotia's experienced chefs use organic produce, with most grown in the Lodge's own vegetable garden, while other ingredients are brought from local farmers. The intimate fireside sofas, fully stocked verandah bar and traditional dining area all make a wonderful setting for a meal or sundowner.
