trip highlights
East Africa is the perfect place for family groups of all ages to experience the best and most beautiful of Africa

2 NIGHTS in Nairobi
A vibrant African welcome
Nairobi introduces families to Africa’s energy: from feeding giraffes to visiting elephant orphanages, and exploring contemporary design markets. We have a collection of private family-perfect homestays and unique luxury hotels for a glorious soft landing and arrival to East Africa.

3 NIGHTS in the Laikipia Plateau
Adventure and conservation
The Laikipia Plateau is home to several fabulous family-owned-and-operated camps. Private conservancies pave the way for community and wildlife conservation. Unforgettable activities available to all ages include: walking safaris, horseback riding, mountain biking, and wildlife tracking. Learn conservation practices, join anti-poaching patrols or sleep beneath the stars. Some of our favorite exclusive-use properties for families are set in this region – each with its own signature, such as an impressive modern African art collection, or habituated giraffe you can feed oranges to during brunch. We love a good game room for family tournaments of ping pong or pool.

2 nights of Cultural focus
Connection and tradition
There are a small handful of properties where you can fall into the world of the Samburu, the Datooga, or the Maasai. Spend your time having authentic, honest conversations under a shady tree. Visiting the singing wells, where local people offer a daily drink of water to their animals with age-old practices. Visit weekly markets for a glimpse of local life. The experiences are never the same for any two visits but always a highlight.

3 NIGHTS in Maasai Mara or the Serengeti
Safari at its most iconic
Heading into the famous grasslands of the Masai Mara or Serengeti, we love choosing small, tented camps set on a private conservancy adjacent to the reserve. Some properties have the most fabulous two-bedroom tents for families to stay close enough to share all the roars and whoop whoops of the night. Private villas and small camps are a perfect takeover for a multigenerational family. These are prime habitats for wildlife with none of the crowds. Zebra, giraffe, gazelle and impala dot the plains. The lion and cheetah are never far behind. Spend early mornings finding hunting prides of lion and pull over under a flat-top acacia tree for a sundowner drink with sweeping views of the open plains.

4 NIGHTS along the Indian Ocean Coast
Playful coastal retreat
Relax on white sandy beaches, snorkel vibrant reefs, sail traditional dhows, and enjoy reflective family time beside the ocean. Laid-back beachfront hotels offer effortless service and luxury just a few steps from the white sands and ocean breezes. Colobus monkeys entertain you in the trees during breakfast and the bartenders create exotic cocktails for you to enjoy as you watch the sunset.

This is where you celebrate your family’s most recent adventure, turn off your alarm clock, and unwind together before you return home to the daily demands of busy schedules. Slow down, watch local women farm seaweed, or build wooden dhows by hand. Explore the underwater world by diving, swimming with dolphins, or snorkeling with whale sharks. Take long walks with loved ones on the white sandy beach. This area of Africa enjoys over 20 kinds of mangos so in season, breakfast is a delight!
