We prefer the smaller, more personal properties in Stone Town, but this Serena has a great location in town. We also like their swimming pool, bar area and Friday night lobster feast! The rooms have air conditioning that works most of the time, which is a rarity in town. — Mango's view
Idyllically situated on the sea front of ancient Stone Town, washed by the aquamarine waters of the Zanzibar channel, redolent of the scent of cloves and flanked by an exotic mélange of sultan's palaces, Portuguese forts, ancient dhow harbors, dark slave markets, and bright bazaars, the Zanzibar Serena Inn is a haven of tranquility and opulence among the bustle of Zanzibar.
Located in the heart of Stone Town, this stunning property is set in two historic sea front buildings that have been integrated and restored into a unique single property. One was an 18th century house, the other the offices of telecommunications in later colonial times. Faithfully restored and lavishly embellished with a jackdaw collection of antique clocks, crystal chandeliers, fretwork screens, carved staircases, Persian rugs and brass studded doors, the interior design concept is a fusion of authenticity and opulence that reflects the very essence of Zanzibar.
Stone Town is a legendary place full of old palaces with intricately carved doors and colorful spice and fruit markets. Zanzibar was issued World Heritage Site status in 2000.
The hotel has 51 en-suite rooms and a lovely private swimming pool overlooking the Indian Ocean. The interiors echo Zanzibar's rich Arab influence with carved doors and furniture coupled with colorful mosaic flooring. Dining is always a treat at the Serena Zanzibar Inn. The local specialties are freshly caught seafood with spices. A team of chefs prepare sumptuous meals daily that guests enjoy in the seafront restaurant.
