Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya
Rekero Camp
This small seasonal camp is family operated and has some of the top guides in Kenya's safari industry. We love to recommend it whenever we can find the space! — Mango's view
Rekero Camp is situated in the midst of the Mara Serengeti eco-system; home not only to the Beaton Family but also to the greatest concentration and diversity of wildlife in the world. The Beaton family arrived in Africa in 1889, pioneering Kenyas conservation movement in 1946. The conservation tradition continues today at Rekero where we offer old time hospitality and a unique insight into the Masai Maras wildlife, cultures, flora and fauna.
Wildlife viewing can be done on foot with experienced Maasai and Il Dorobo guides, or in our custom 4-wheel drive vehicles which allow intimate yet unobtrusive access to the animals. Picnics in the bush and sun-downers are also featured.
Perhaps the greatest part of what makes the Rekero experience so special is the interaction and mix of cultures that the guides and the local Maasai share so readily with their guests. A cultural visit to the local Maasai and Il Dorobo communities, with whom the Beatons have a close association, together with an insight into bushcraft, is a truly humbling experience.
Amidst the teeming mass of wildlife in the Masai Mara area, Rekeros tented camp is currently inside the Masai Mara Game reserve, very close to the confluence of the Mara and Talek rivers. This mobile camp is ideally situated for the annual migration, which is the movement of over one million wildebeest and two hundred thousand zebra from the Serengeti through the Masai Mara in Kenya.
The Camp is set up seasonally (June - March) and caters for up to 18 guests. Gerard and Rainee Beaton, along with their partner Jackson Ole Looseyia, own and host this unique camp. Their team of professional Maasai safari guides and camp crew have worked together for years, providing guests with an in-depth and truly memorable Masai Mara experience. The camp consists of 8 spacious tents, all are en-suite with flush toilets and safari showers. Solar lanterns and kerosene lamps are provided in each tent. An inverter is available to charge video camera batteries.
