In the heart of the Serengeti Plain, at the head of Olduvai Gorge, beside small Lake Ndutu set in beautiful acacia woodland, with the mighty backdrop of the Ngorongoro Crater highlands is Ndutu Safari Lodge.

The friendly Ndutu Lodge staff has been there for years wanting to welcome you and make you feel at home. Ndutu still has the informal, intimate feeling of the original bush camp, built by legendary hunter George Dove in the 60s. Now, comfortable stone cottages have replaced tents, but the main buildings place no barriers between you and nature.

At breakfast you will be delighted by iridescent birds, at lunch you may be entertained by a passing group of elephant, at dinner by an exquisite genet gliding over the rafters. Rest your eyes on a near tree or the distant view. It is true the lodge has the only bar and the best food within at least a 50 km radius.

Sights abound, so do sounds. Listen to the murmurs of a million doves greeting the sunrise, a cacophony of guinea fowl as they startle away, the swish of a hawk through the clear air. Hyena howling, zebra and jackal barking, the rich chorus of Ndutu rings round, night and day.

Wildlife photographers and biologists have been coming to Ndutu for decades, but besides the friendly atmosphere, appreciators of wildlife know that the Ndutu area attracts like minds as well as a huge variety of animals. So talk to your companions in the lounge and around the campfire - researchers, rock stars, rangers, recluses or royalty - you might even meet someone from your hometown that has come all this way to partake of the joy of being on safari at Ndutu.
