Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

Gibbs Farm

A good option if the lodges on the rim of the Crater are full or if you are planning a day trip to see the Hadzabe people. Gibbs is a cute property set in beautiful flowering gardens.

All guest rooms have just undergone an extensive upgrade and are looking fantastic.

Gibbs Farm hugs nearly a mile of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, part of a 3,200 square mile reserve. Ideally located, the Farm lies half way between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, near the village of Karatu.

Gibbs Farm is an oasis of green, calm and beauty, in a landscape that can often be parched, dry and dusty. The lodge offers 18 cottages with en-suite bathrooms set among the English gardens. All our rooms ooze the charm of their unique garden setting and have been recently upgraded.

The main facilities, consisting of a sitting room, reading room, dining room serving fresh, home cooked meals, a bar and gift shop, are situated in the old farmhouse. Built in 1929, the Farmhouse has hardly changed, retaining the charm of a well looked-after private house.

Coffee is grown, processed and roasted on the farm, and a vast 10 acre fruit and organic vegetable garden provides nearly all the fruit and vegetables to the guests, who wake up to fresh coffee, a multitude of flowers and breathtaking views.

Gibbs Farm provides a welcome stop on any safari, and a base from which to enjoy the many activities available in the foothills of the Ngorongoro Crater. Even if your stay is short, find time for a gentle walk or tour of the splendid gardens.
