Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru

Opened in late 2006 to much anticipation. Any time a resort is built, there is damage to the surrounding coral, so we expect the snorkeling and house reefs to be a disappointment for a year or so. However the Four Seasons are not new to this, so will likely compensate their snorkel masked guests with trips to surrounding reef options. Guests can embrace both the idyllic retreat and the sophisticated pleasures on land and water - from genuine ayurvedic healing in the spa to splashing, sailing or diving in the jewel-like Indian Ocean and Maldives most pristine lagoon.

The 102 thatched beach and water villas - with features such as private plunge pools and spacious areas for outdoor living - include two unsurpassed land and ocean suites. Enjoy exclusive Four Seasons amenities in a rustic tropical setting featuring private gardens and verandas gazing over tranquil vistas of the lagoon.

All rooms include 100% cotton over-sized bath towels, CD and DVD players, down pillows, hair dryer, in-room safe, iron and ironing board available, lighted make-up/shaving mirror, non-allergenic pillows available, refrigerated private bar, satellite TV, tea/coffee maker, and twice-daily housekeeping service.

Beach Bungalows feature a private garden with a private plunge pool. Water Villas, some with plunge pools, feature a private deck with access by spiral staircase to the furnished sea-gazing loft. The huge Beach Villas features 40 foot lap pools. Those wanting to go ultra-luxe can stay in two-bedroom villas located on the beach or over the water.

Overlooking the swimming pool and beach, the three thatch-roofed pavilions of Cafe Landaa appear to float above the sapphire waters on the north shore of Landaa Giraavaru. For breakfast, lunch and dinner, our chefs create exquisite delights with eastern and western influences. Al Barakat serves authentic Arabian cuisine. The restaurant is built over water, off the main jetty. A Shisha Bar is located on the ground level. Located at the western end of the island overlooking a 2 km lagoon, Blu embraces the essence of the Maldives as the place where the ocean meets the sky. The restaurant serves a la carte breakfast, light antipasta, pizza and pasta at lunch and fine Italian cuisine in the evening. The Barbecue located next to the seawater pool overlooking Kudarikilu Kandu (the channel) offers fresh catch of the day as well as a wide selection of meats, salads and side dishes.

Five Degrees North, the Resorts main bar, named for the islands location five degrees north of the equator, commands views of the entire island. Its nautically inspired decor features a dhoni (traditional boat) as the counter, with a library, pool table and selection of board games for entertainment. In the casual sand floor setting of Sunset Bar, enjoy exotic juices, tropical cocktails or a refreshing young coconut.

Guests can choose to laze by their choice of three swimming pools at the resort, one mainly for the kids, another a seawater pool overlooking the lagoon, and finally the main pool with an infinity edge that cantilevers over the lagoon, as well. Other activities include tennis, scuba diving, surfing with the Tropicsurf instructors, fishing, and snorkeling.

After a long day in the sun, head to the spa. The Landaa Spa is a resort in itself, providing a comprehensive approach to physical, spiritual and mental well-being, with a special emphasis on yoga and ayurveda. Secluded open air treatment areas make the lush tropical setting an integral part of the relaxation and treatment process.
